Meet Samantha

Samantha Honeycutt has 20 years experience as a pitching coach in the Kansas City Metro area.

Prior to her assistant coaching role at UMKC, Honeycutt served as the head softball coach for Avila University. During her four years as head coach, she racked up a 143-81 record with 4 straight 30+ win seasons. She was the first coach in program history to average more than 20 victories per season through her first four years with the program. Also during her time at Avila, she led the team to two NAIA world series opening round appearances, two conference tournament titles, and 16 All-Conference player selections.

A former standout first baseman and pitcher at the NCAA Division I level, Honeycutt played for the Missouri Tigers in 2003 and 2004, then finished her career at Missouri State playing for the Bears' 2005 and 2006 squads. She was named the MVC Player of the Year in her senior season in 2006, becoming just the third player in school history to earn that award. Along with receiving the league’s player of the year award and first-team all-conference recognition, she was also named to the MVC Scholar Athletes first-team and ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA All-District VII team.

Honeycutt was a vital member of two Pleasant Hill State Championship teams during her time at PHHS and set the Missouri high school record for strikeouts in a game with 44 in the State Final Championship game that lasted a record 21 innings this past fall. Honeycutt was featured in the Nov. 19 issue of Sports Illustrated in recognition of her record, setting outing in the "Faces in the Crowd" section.

She sported a 22-0 record last her senior year and allowed opponents to hit only 0.96 against her. For her efforts, she was selected to the Missouri All-State team all four years in high school.
